The City recently learned that Dodge County Wind, LLC, who had applied to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for a transmission line, has filed a request to withdraw their transmission line application. In a letter from the Minnesota Commerce Department, seen below, the stated reason is due to significant cost increases and that the company wants to explore other interconnection options (the application was to connect the transmission line to a substation in Byron).
This does not mean the project is completely gone but instead, the applicant is taking a few steps back to reevaluate alternatives. The public meetings scheduled for today are still taking place at the Minnesota Wi-Fi Performing Arts Center but instead of being a public hearing for the draft Environmental Impact Study, the meetings are instead a question and answer session. If the applicant decides to proceed, a new draft EIS will be required and the whole process will begin again.
